Our office hours and fees

"A lawyer's time and advice are his stock in trade." ABRAHAM LINCOLN - Lawyer and U.S. President

OUR OFFICE HOURS are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  When circumstances require it, office conferences are scheduled beyond our normal business hours at the convenience of the client.  Normally, there is no charge for an initial interview.

It is the policy and practice of Gyllenborg & Dunn to provide each client with a written agreement regarding the conditions of employment in each case.  Our clients know in writing what services they can expect from us, and how much money those services are expected to cost.  Our clients also know in writing what we expect from them.  In this way, we can address the questions that the client may have about attorney fees and services at the beginning of the professional relationship, then concentrate our efforts on a timely resolution of the case.

A lawyer's professional services differ from those of a doctor or dentist in one important way - much of the work  of a lawyer is performed when the client is not present.  A client should know that a document prepared for him, or advice given to him, is the product of the lawyer's education, experience, time and effort.  Representing a client may also involve the education, experience, time and effort of other persons in the lawyer's office, such as the lawyer's partner, an associate attorney, a paralegal, or a legal secretary.  Remember, when you engage the services of Gyllenborg & Dunn, you are hiring our entire law office to work for you.

"If you do things by the job, you are perpetually driven: the hours are scourges.  If you work by the hour, you gently sail on the stream of Time, which is always bearing you on to the haven of Pay, whether you make any effort or not." - Charles Dudley Warner, American essayist and novelist.  We represent most of our clients for a flat fee.  Flat fees re based upon many factors in addition to the number of hours it takes to resolve the case, including the complexity of the matter, the estimate of time and labor required to perform the legal services properly, and the fee customarily charged, in the jurisdiction where the case is pending, by lawyers of similar experience, reputation and ability to those of Gyllenborg & Dunn.  Our clients tell us that they like flat fees because they eliminate concerns about the cost of the representation increasing with each telephone call, office conference, or delay of the case by the other side.  Flat fees also eliminate what some people consider a conflict of interest between resolving the case quickly and maximizing the law firm's income.  Flat fees provide certainty to clients with regard to the costs of legal services, and allow us to be paid a fair price for the legal services provided to our client.  In an appropriate case, a retainer and payment of an hourly rate can be arranged.  This happens most often when a criminal investigation is ongoing.

Gyllenborg & Dunn accepts charge cards, credit cards and debit cards from American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and Visa.  Fees may also be paid by cash or check.

Because we are located across the street from both the Johnson County Courthouse and the Adult Detention Center in Olathe, our clients are not charged for travel time or expenses from our office to those locations.  In fact, for most cases pending in municipal or district courts in Johnson and Wyandotte counties, there is no charge for travel expenses.

Because it is important to both us and our clients, we will make sure that you understand what we can do, and how much the legal fees will be, before you hire us.
